KTZ Christmas Challenge - S10 K

This is the final card in this year's last year's Katzelkraft Challenge. Taking inspiration from DT member Sandrine we had to make a card with heat embossing, a book page and 1 main colour with a touch of another. The stamps are all by Katzelkraft.
I have really enjoyed doing this Challenge again (the 4th year running) and would like to thank everyone on the Katzelkraft forum for making it such fun. Only another 10 months to the next one...

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S10 C3

This card used a sketch:

Towards the end of last year I had a tidy up of my scraps and decided to roughly colour code them. I also decided to split up some very old pads of paper. They are now in large clear zipped folders with a tag for each colour.  I have 6 colours so far but will probably add a few more this year as the system seems to be working for me.
I used the purple folder for this card - even the card base was cut with card from this folder. I used shaded lilac DI and smooshed some colour down. The background text is a PA stamp. The various scraps of card and paper were embossed and the main image is a KTZ stamp. I decided to echo the shape of the flowers (physalis) with a heart shaped brad (from a Craft Barn goodie box) and the initial of the recipient.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S6 CK

This card was using the techniques on a card by new DT member Coco here. She had made a wintry scene using a KTZ stamp as a stencil and as a 3D image. I didn't want to do a wintry scene but went for a more spring-like one. All the stamps are by KTZ. 2 butterflies are stencilled, 2 are stamped and 2 are partially glued on so that their wings stand up.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S10 C3

This is a double pull card. I used a tutorial from here (in French but with good pics). The papers are by Crafty Individuals and are so gorgeous I felt there was no need to add to them. The card opens on both sides like this:

and I embossed my Inkylicious quote stamp in white.

Happy New Year!!!!

Image from the BBC
I hope 2015 brings you peace, health and happiness. I managed to complete the Katzelkraft 10 semaines avant Nöel challenge and will show each of the remaining cards individually later on in the week but I thought it would be nice to show all the cards together.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S10 C1

I haven't had a chance to post the final week's recipes for the Katzelkraft Christmas Challenge. I have a few more to do to complete the challenge but I have until the 10th January so I think I should manage it.

        1 Use fabric
        2 Follow a given sketch
        3 Make a pull-out or waterfall card
4 DT member Sandrine has made a card and we have to follow it using a book page, embossing and one main colour of ink with just a touch of another colour.

I started with the fabric card. I have no need for Christmas cards so the rest of my cards will be for other occasions. I used a scrap of fabric from an old hessian tote bag. The butterfly is by KTZ stamped with a Kaleidacolor ink pad. The splats are also by KTZ, stamped in Impress cherry pink.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S9 CK

This card required the use of techniques shown by Dominike in a step-by-step here. I used a KTZ stamp for the script background in Brilliance lightning black. The tulip paper is from a K&Co Amy Butler pad and I've embossed the tulip outlines with gold. The doily is a Papermania die and the flower pot and tulips are from a KTZ set. I painted the stamped tulips with Twinkling H2Os and added glossy accents to the flower heads. The sentiment is from a Paula Pascual set.
This is probably the last card I will make for the challenge before Christmas but I have until January to make the remaining 5 cards.

KTZ Christmas Challenge S9 C3

This is a gift card card ie a card designed to hold a gift card when you can't decide what to give someone for Christmas. There are lots of tutorials and templates on the 'net but I decided to follow this one for a double pocket holder. The first pocket is for a tag (pictured on the left) and the rear pocket has a Costa gift card poking out of it (actually it's a former Costa card that I now use for scraping texture paste over my stencils). All the papers used are from DCWV rose-tinted Christmas. I punched some small snowflakes and diecut a larger one from a Marianne die.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S9 C1

A CAS card using a button for week 9 of the KTZ Challenge. The pearl button was in a bag of assorted buttons I picked up at a show a couple of years ago. When I cut off the shank, the pearl part popped out so I decided to stamp it with Stazon azure before I stuck it back on. All the stamps are from a Paula Pascual set called Joyful Bubbles. I mounted the stamped piece onto a white card blank with foam pads and added a couple of photo corners.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S9 C2

This week is the penultimate week for the Katzelkraft challenge. The recipes are:

        1 Use a button.
2 Make a Christmas card with no Santa , tree, red or green.
3 Make a card that can hold a gift card.
K Follow the step-by-step by Dominike  here.

I started with card 2. The main image is by Inkadinkadoo. I used the snow embossing folder on a piece of card, masked off the centre and then coloured the reverse with stormy sky and salty ocean DIs. I removed the mask and ran the card through the Cuttlebug under the embossing folder in order to flatten the embossing. I removed the mask and stamped the image in salty ocean DI. I added a pop of pink with a Sharpie and a Hero Arts sentiment.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S8 C2 revisited

I was not happy with my first attempt at the 2 colour card for the Katzelkraft Challenge so as this week's cards had not been posted I decided to have another go.
This time I decided to emboss in silver on a black background. Both stamps are by Katzelkraft.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S8 C3

For this card we had to have a window somewhere. In the past I've used a house die as I don't have a window die as such but this time I thought I would try and make a window with my framelit rounded tag die. I cut 2 tags together to give me the arched window and stuck on some thin strips for the pane. The outer waste was run through an embossing folder (stained glass). The main image is by KTZ stamped on an alcohol ink background (raspberry and citrus) and clear embossed.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S8 C2

This card had to use 2 colours. I found some gel crayons in Lidl - a pack of 12 for £2.49 and thought I'd try them out and see if they would be a suitable substitute for Gelatos. They seem to work well, maybe not quite as creamy as Gelatos but at a bargain price. I decided to try out the purple and light green. The snowman is a KTZ stamp.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S8 C1

A very quick and simple card which had to use a postage stamp. I made a vague tree shape with some old stamps (with a star for the top of the tree!). The embossing folder is a favourite of mine called Rellies Rave.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S8 K

The special K card this week is a gorgeous card by BĂ©atrice using one of her new Christmas images (see below). We have to take inspiration from it and create a card using a stamp with colouring in and a 3D element.

I used a Clarity stamp that I've had for a while. I stamped it 3 times so that I could cut the 3 sections out and raise them on foam pads. On reflection I suppose I should have done this in reverse so that the bottom section stood out higher than the rest. The background is ultramarine and emerald Brusho (the yellow you see is from the emerald). The text is by Paula Pascual. I mounted it all on a deep pearlescent blue card blank.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S7 C3

This is the front of my pop-up card - a KTZ flourish and a Tattered Lace die cut. I saw some amazing examples of pop-ups as I trawled the web looking for ideas but opted for a very simple design:

The central tree is a Marianne die cut embellished with Stickles and a star gem. It is supported by the background paper which has been cut into in 2 places and folded in the opposite direction like this:

I've never made one of these before and was surprised at how easy it was - it could be used for all sorts of images. The bunting is by Crafty Individuals.

KTZ Christmas Challenge S7 C1

This card had to use a vintage image. I found this image in a Crafty Individuals image book and liked the idea of the little girl and deer framed by the trees of my X Cut dies. The splatter effect behind the image is a KTZ stamp. The green paper of the top layer is very porous and no matter how many blobs of 'snow' I put on with my Uni Posca pen they get absorbed by the paper.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S7 C2

Week 7's challenges are:

        1 Use a vintage image.
2 Make a collage card with at least 3 different elements.
        3 Make a pop-up card.

I started with the collage card:

I used a Balzer Bits stencil for the star and embossed it with clear embossing powder. The background is made of various torn papers from Papermania's contemporary Christmas and Tim Holtz's washer border die used as a stencil. The long strip is cut from a masterboard I made some time ago. I wasn't very happy with the colours so I covered the whole piece with gesso, stamped a KTZ script and stencilled some circles in Brilliance Victorian violet. I added a strip of the washboard die circles and some gems. The sentiment is from a Paula Pascual set and a twine bow finished off the card.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S6 C2

This card had to have a transparent element on it. I could have used acetate but I thought I would use some transparent shrink plastic for a change. I painted a night sky with a little ultramarine Brusho. It's amazing how highly pigmented this stuff is - you only need the tiniest amount and if you should happen to drop a few crystals anywhere, you'll know about it as soon as the area gets damp! While it was wet I sprinkled on some white Brusho but it didn't really give me the effect I wanted. When dry I used a silver Krylon pen to blow some splatters over the sky. I have one of those puffy attachments to create splatters but I find that blowing close to the nib produces better results for me (make sure you don't get too close or you will give your lips a makeover, been there, done that...). I added some Memory Box diecuts and cut some Cuttlebug stars with shrink plastic. After shrinking I stuck them into the sky but of course whatever adhesive I used (I used glue dots) was visible. I got around this by sticking some tiny punched stars over the offending blobs.

KTZ Christmas Challenge - S6 C1

For this card we had to use an image from a magazine. I found this cute dog in a newspaper supplement advertising a candle brand called Lilou et Loic. I cut him out and gave him a festive hat with a scrap of red card and a pompom. The card blank was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and the card was finished with a strip of washi tape.
