I have used an old Non Sequitur stamp from an Oriental set. I stamped and embossed the image and then coloured it in with alcohol markers. Because the markers bleed through to the reverse I decided to cutout the image. The tag background was made by spritzing water on some broken china DO and smooshing the tag through it. I then used a small raindrops stamp from the same Non Sequitur set all over the background. I die cut the clouds and a bit of ground for the image. I thought about adding some text but decided to leave it plain.<p></p>Scrapmatehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05169597992802573398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134492918162578922.post-16713229227235632102023-03-22T07:00:00.011+00:002023-03-22T07:00:00.230+00:00Monthly Challenge - February<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikHH58B29E5J2A9GG8uyau8IQGc5t6KTktL2UVKwJvMetyK-DqDwGlxHiEkBHA7My3KedfI4lAl7ohNcAoVuKIDoQUO3uwG2Lp57LKddAbMXWZe42_-5EHZIien6sw8R6yCxN9ceNu0SmpkaaugqgUG1C1QKScVa8QhqxhnJj0W-iSmCH5bOZ1rI8y0g/s1134/February%202023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1134" data-original-width="634" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikHH58B29E5J2A9GG8uyau8IQGc5t6KTktL2UVKwJvMetyK-DqDwGlxHiEkBHA7My3KedfI4lAl7ohNcAoVuKIDoQUO3uwG2Lp57LKddAbMXWZe42_-5EHZIien6sw8R6yCxN9ceNu0SmpkaaugqgUG1C1QKScVa8QhqxhnJj0W-iSmCH5bOZ1rI8y0g/s320/February%202023.jpg" width="179" /></a></div><p>Playing catch-up (again) and I've managed to complete February's tag. The theme was Dreams/Dreaming and I had problems coming up with an idea until I heard a reference to Martin Luther King on TV and it all fell into place.</p><p>The text is a stamp by Katzelkraft of the famous 'I have a dream' speech. First I stamped the lady (an old stamp by Non Sequitur) on the tag with Versafine onyx black and coloured her in with Coloursoft pencils and Sansodor and a metallic gold pen for her earring. I covered her with a mask and then stamped the text. Keeping the mask on I tore a strip of paper on both sides to make a mask for the text and used wild honey DI over the remaining spaces on the tag.</p><p>Pulling the masks off revealed the tag but the space above the ladies head looked rather empty. I debated using a stencil over the background but then decided that some die cut flying birds would look better so I coloured a scrap of card with broken china DO and used a Sizzix die. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p></p>Scrapmatehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05169597992802573398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134492918162578922.post-40859983844870091312023-03-10T07:00:00.001+00:002023-03-10T07:00:00.191+00:00Monthly Tag Challenge - March<p> I have not managed to take part in the challenge for a couple of months but I hope I will catch up when inspiration strikes.` This month's theme of silhouettes was a much easier one.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfBUhFjKifD2FPzoylcwEsVQqm4YBh1-WAeT2DmV5GdzLVbW2fxFj-9o99TmIbCtX3D_vD3BsQbBjlHdd9UzrAH1_JaWOqwHATczmXkncauAGyJ0fg5A3MyNWY4M7DWOgExAQIWaNTEEDTZfVbmg1F_ar64mID5UzXYQa1lwdCj25LGSO1XptLiGUpiA/s1146/March%202023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1146" data-original-width="646" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfBUhFjKifD2FPzoylcwEsVQqm4YBh1-WAeT2DmV5GdzLVbW2fxFj-9o99TmIbCtX3D_vD3BsQbBjlHdd9UzrAH1_JaWOqwHATczmXkncauAGyJ0fg5A3MyNWY4M7DWOgExAQIWaNTEEDTZfVbmg1F_ar64mID5UzXYQa1lwdCj25LGSO1XptLiGUpiA/s320/March%202023.jpg" width="180" /></a></div><br /><p>This is part of a die cut sent to me by a friend in Australia. The stars and the sentiment are all Sizzix dies but the star die is an inlay die that cuts into the card so the front is just a set of star-shaped holes and the blue stars are on the inside. I die cut the stars on the front of the card base and then did the same with some blue card making sure to keep all the tiny 'waste'. Then I stuck each blue star onto the inside through the relevant holes on the front. I'm not sure I would attempt that again! I've seen Jennifer McGuire do the same thing easily with some stuff called Press n' Seal but I didn't have any.<br /> <p></p>Scrapmatehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05169597992802573398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134492918162578922.post-12779565051742988592023-01-05T07:00:00.001+00:002023-01-05T07:00:00.227+00:00Monthly Tag Challenge - November<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2vNpM_ZAJJCaPT9n_Aez6c52j5CD_uiYqZRV-1liDiZpvbDc3sS0s3F0Y7-QlI89ano_1m2S57c2iRZb6kPwvZVhosARMMa4_CHb2jyhBTn4SQsukuafeOBVhIGET020yT3bqct-a9yO3ZL9-MkvLdm7Jt3vN7qoCGwHxhOkEcpN0oEuTNGPnJhxpcw/s1296/November%202022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1296" data-original-width="696" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2vNpM_ZAJJCaPT9n_Aez6c52j5CD_uiYqZRV-1liDiZpvbDc3sS0s3F0Y7-QlI89ano_1m2S57c2iRZb6kPwvZVhosARMMa4_CHb2jyhBTn4SQsukuafeOBVhIGET020yT3bqct-a9yO3ZL9-MkvLdm7Jt3vN7qoCGwHxhOkEcpN0oEuTNGPnJhxpcw/s320/November%202022.jpg" width="172" /></a></div><br /> The theme for November was 'Butterflies'.<p></p><p>I used spun sugar and tumbled glass DIs for the background and added some stamped butterflies from a Darkroom Door stamp set. I've been travelling and then got caught up with Christmas things. I have some catching up to do on the monthly tag challenge but I thought I would try and get December's done before the end of the year.<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXvnku1aXv12_H2Vyau9335InEJ0HXU5ZyGz3-mfyzh9rOEV6Irtk1JZV4szHXYoU844ggKjTK1zV5kvyzMHGWwikBAc8eN_IMHiytXmxvhmaecU7tD4lpHoRe10HRTt3HMgrc0vg1YabAsA_BBUORNWk9SpqF4VR5NY43j2O64rwsiG3uJcSsoc5Vbg/s1314/December%202022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1314" data-original-width="730" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXvnku1aXv12_H2Vyau9335InEJ0HXU5ZyGz3-mfyzh9rOEV6Irtk1JZV4szHXYoU844ggKjTK1zV5kvyzMHGWwikBAc8eN_IMHiytXmxvhmaecU7tD4lpHoRe10HRTt3HMgrc0vg1YabAsA_BBUORNWk9SpqF4VR5NY43j2O64rwsiG3uJcSsoc5Vbg/s320/December%202022.jpg" width="178" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>This month's theme was 'one layer'. I started with this fun Crafty Individuals stamp called three (festive) dogs. Having covered them with a mask I added a background of twisted citron, crackling campfire and fossilized amber Oxides. I then used a TH flourish stencil with twisted citron over the tag and added a bubble stamp with Versafine smoky gray using the second and third generation prints.<div>After removing the masks I used a gold pen for the dog tags and a red pen for the collars. I was looking for a quirky text stamp that would go with the dogs and this was the most appropriate I could find in my collection.</div>Scrapmatehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05169597992802573398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134492918162578922.post-45322713259942620942022-09-16T07:00:00.003+01:002022-09-21T22:34:11.047+01:00Contemporary Congratulations<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu2imPf--O9u6r2VUVHv5-ggx5X4OrHFJ-xcCkdW4sC1cTBFAsmHcQLh2oldpHL1HeRhfkFGOiowxQZgsLNyJ3x7Bm7uIhhGqkl8Nhtzts4Qbt1rFXwokguDG_1GWHvZ7ezAtBBVBuuXQLdmKS6xECyF6o_W9gRfwkk0vvpZj8BXsU7cuEcxyl-TVYmA/s4032/4389F9AF-FC91-47EB-8894-C98154430070.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu2imPf--O9u6r2VUVHv5-ggx5X4OrHFJ-xcCkdW4sC1cTBFAsmHcQLh2oldpHL1HeRhfkFGOiowxQZgsLNyJ3x7Bm7uIhhGqkl8Nhtzts4Qbt1rFXwokguDG_1GWHvZ7ezAtBBVBuuXQLdmKS6xECyF6o_W9gRfwkk0vvpZj8BXsU7cuEcxyl-TVYmA/s320/4389F9AF-FC91-47EB-8894-C98154430070.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>It's that time of life when many of my son's friends are getting engaged and he wanted a couple of cards 'without hearts and stuff'. I forgot to jot down where I saw it but if I find it I will add a link.</p><p>I die cut a perforated rectangle, embossed it with an old Cuttlebug folder and added some fun foam behind it. The leaf die is from a Sizzix set - Spring Stems. I painted some Twinkling H2Os in majestic blue and mystic blue onto a scrap of watercolour paper, spritzed it with water to blend the two colours together and die cut the butterfly (I have no record of where this butterfly came from).</p><p>I wanted a sentiment in keeping with the clean style of the card and after a few attempts went for this small peel off. A few gems gave the card a subtle sparkle.</p>Scrapmatehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05169597992802573398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134492918162578922.post-2213553758827076432022-09-13T07:00:00.001+01:002022-09-13T07:00:00.208+01:00Monthly Tag Challenge - September<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbW_tGxIt5_o5lmJHPy67esARRoQISxAlFZW1B6hVYnKPn6KdVCtdK-B6IrDrn21mxNquBYmNDPGIv5xN2SAgvGkM2BIzOw30M0oslX7ji0B37Y-SxTC4M5p-bs_eKJELWJnUnLdo1atQVShRhOnMMq2g68h1LOd8sgGzouy5dBPQH1YnXnPGAl9r4eg/s1232/September%202022%20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1232" data-original-width="738" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbW_tGxIt5_o5lmJHPy67esARRoQISxAlFZW1B6hVYnKPn6KdVCtdK-B6IrDrn21mxNquBYmNDPGIv5xN2SAgvGkM2BIzOw30M0oslX7ji0B37Y-SxTC4M5p-bs_eKJELWJnUnLdo1atQVShRhOnMMq2g68h1LOd8sgGzouy5dBPQH1YnXnPGAl9r4eg/s320/September%202022%20.jpg" width="192" /></a></div><br /> The theme for this month's challenge was bees and the colour yellow. This is going to be a long post!</p><p>The idea is to create an 8x8 masterboard and then cut it as follows:</p><p>6x4 postcard</p><p>4x4 coaster</p><p>2.5x3.5 ATC</p><p>2x2 twinchies (2)</p><p>1x1 inchies (2 but I managed to cut 4)</p><p>It's been years since I last made a masterboard and as I'd only recently unearthed my Oriental box of ephemera I decided to go with an Oriental theme.</p><p>I find masterboards great for using up those sheets of patterned paper that you get in a set but don't really care for. I wanted to use this beautiful old wood mounted stamp by Stampington called Cinnabar. Unfortunately the stencilled texture on the background was exactly in the centre of the 4x4 coaster. I decided to stamp the image so that I got the hair ornaments on the coaster and then to cut out the main part of the image separately to add on top. The image looked too stark against the background and I was thinking about what to do when I spotted a mask I had made for the image for another project. If the mask is reusable I tend to keep it with the stamp - in this case it was actually on top of it. I must have used it to overstamp a fabric texture and traces of it were still on it. It gave me the effect I was looking for and I found some coordinating green and gold washi paper to go with it. The text is a Paper Artsy stamp and I added a floral sticker, a Japanese symbol sticker and a small gem in her hair.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8a_wXFvrG3rIr4dMcgHow10U1462IJxVtzfVzJwJDywGDZ7MWXQn-6u5x98DtLzmc5ea1YmLTQT5yA4mn4L1yABSsUHA5ZGyM3Ai0iOOLDzCaJ2J3khL3S8xN7Qs1WSy2rmwEMC0sabENvBg7jMXIgDu3ApHoWMfVG8fQXP5id-35kI-Hh3NWxQVT3Q/s4032/23A73AC9-F20E-4BB5-A691-5F3E8B53E927.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8a_wXFvrG3rIr4dMcgHow10U1462IJxVtzfVzJwJDywGDZ7MWXQn-6u5x98DtLzmc5ea1YmLTQT5yA4mn4L1yABSsUHA5ZGyM3Ai0iOOLDzCaJ2J3khL3S8xN7Qs1WSy2rmwEMC0sabENvBg7jMXIgDu3ApHoWMfVG8fQXP5id-35kI-Hh3NWxQVT3Q/s320/23A73AC9-F20E-4BB5-A691-5F3E8B53E927.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><p>Looking at the postcard I feel I should have added some gesso to it to knock back the background before adding the stamping but it's done now. This tag is my second attempt. The first was a collage of various rail tickets, menus etc from a trip to Japan in 2005 but it didn't look right so I started again. The background was blended fossilized amber DO with candied apple DO blended over a trellis stencil. I randomly stamped some small flowers over the background and added a few dots of peel-off waste. I used Spellbinders oval and scalloped oval dies on some paper bought from the Japanese equivalent of Poundland called 100 Yen Shop.<p></p><p>I made the knot with some Mizuhiki cord following online instructions. The oriental text is a sticker and the title and the main image are by Simple Expressions. I gave the lady a colourful obi and added some variegated fibres.</p>Scrapmatehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05169597992802573398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134492918162578922.post-48369120084669735802022-07-28T07:00:00.003+01:002022-07-28T07:00:00.225+01:00All About the Die Cuts<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When you need a card in a hurry die cuts can be invaluable.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirYRkRjoobkLy9LGW7EGPyWjDUanCwaZAohg4bI0-aLF5_oU2addqaNvmTVPpklqgiJebbuTriUkAPJCx8VJlEmJ8tdT2KJcwx2ykvUe5bEYQiJuNrlw2vNnJ3a0WjH91Q3ZESG8xYQTJqMEQ_dHlFKKFo5lPNmQdvsxsJcdMklLY3D7Hx4pT9STe9AA/s3135/37BCBDAD-47FA-498A-B468-0B414420F478.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3135" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirYRkRjoobkLy9LGW7EGPyWjDUanCwaZAohg4bI0-aLF5_oU2addqaNvmTVPpklqgiJebbuTriUkAPJCx8VJlEmJ8tdT2KJcwx2ykvUe5bEYQiJuNrlw2vNnJ3a0WjH91Q3ZESG8xYQTJqMEQ_dHlFKKFo5lPNmQdvsxsJcdMklLY3D7Hx4pT9STe9AA/s320/37BCBDAD-47FA-498A-B468-0B414420F478.jpeg" width="309" /></a></div><br /> <p></p><p>I started with a Pretty Quick die called straight panel which cuts a complete A6 panel. I kept thinking of the David Bowie song ('Fashion, turn to the left, fashion, turn to the right') and once the earworm embedded itself only another song could replace it so I turned to Madonna ('Vogue, strike a pose'). This Dina Wakley stamp from her essential silhouettes collection fitted the bill.<p></p><p>I stamped it several times with my stamping platform and Versafine onyx black to get a crisp image, clear heat embossed it and then masked it. The background is a TH stencil in spiced marmalade, crackling campfire and candied apple DOs. It looked a little plain after removing the mask so I added some splatters of red acrylic paint, die cut some stars of various sizes from metallic card and added a heat embossed sentiment.</p>Scrapmatehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05169597992802573398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134492918162578922.post-77682531132694189382022-07-12T15:26:00.003+01:002022-08-18T00:12:03.010+01:00Monthly Tag Challenge - June<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5kTTMo5siXxLaiUMEwhduVZWK6G3Npt7RrRlqzCXnX6M0cj3V7ROPhCfHDtCmC_IIy1C3IKBSewH6a816P7uJ-rd_4qN9_BQFXkW1vnyeeYaNPD0sj6beqpOFgj6gtv6IRVrOuZZvUf3dT19yWWct81ZjR7NdlW8ulIKCopgLSLvhXhN_SNHe0yJRRg/s1180/June%202022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1180" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5kTTMo5siXxLaiUMEwhduVZWK6G3Npt7RrRlqzCXnX6M0cj3V7ROPhCfHDtCmC_IIy1C3IKBSewH6a816P7uJ-rd_4qN9_BQFXkW1vnyeeYaNPD0sj6beqpOFgj6gtv6IRVrOuZZvUf3dT19yWWct81ZjR7NdlW8ulIKCopgLSLvhXhN_SNHe0yJRRg/s320/June%202022.jpg" width="174" /></a></div><br /> Playing catch-up with the monthly tag challenge. June's theme was Celebrations with a requirement for some red, white and blue. <p></p><p>The dies were mainly by Crafters Companion from various sets. I die cut the word and inlaid it into the tag. The confetti and balloon strings were also by Crafters Companion. This stencil is designed for square cards but my default card size is A6 so I'm left with a white border both sides to which I've added some thin strips of matching card. The colours used are Distress Oxide fossilized amber, twisted citron and wilted violet. The sentiment die is from Alina Crafts. How wonderful it was to see everything and be able to touch it instead of on a screen. Evidently there were many people who felt the same as I did because the show was packed. I had decided to leave it until the afternoon to visit when it tends to be quieter but it was very busy for the first half hour or so.<p></p><p>I was very mindful of what I bought - some white card from my usual supplier Lime Tree Crafts, some white and silver Nuvo Drops, a Woodware flower stamp that I've seen Natasha Foote use and 2 sets of background layering stencils.
