LIM 269 Part 2

I was sorting through some patterned papers in a vain attempt to tidy up when I came across some baby pink polka dotted paper. I immediately thought of this week's challenge on the Less Is More blog which I have already entered (see my previous post below) and I just had to make another card for the challenge.
I cut and made up a bow from the paper which has a slight pearlescent sheen to it. I love the combination of pink and black - it's frivolous but elegant so I decided to put the bow on a black card blank. I added the sentiment from Clearly Besotted and a few candi dots (the small one was punched with a Crop-a-dile).
This is a simple card but has a lot of dimension:

LIM 269

This week's challenge on the Less Is More blog is Polka Dots. I needed to make a card for a little boy so decided to use the theme as a starting block. I used a Hero Arts elephant die and some spotty paper. The elephants were grounded on some washi tape and I gave them some gem eyes to co-ordinate. The sentiment is by Winnie & Walter.

Memory Box Challenge - March

I enjoy taking part in the Memory Box challenge because I love Memory Box dies  but this month it has taken me ages to come up with an entry. The theme is Blossoms & Bunnies. My first problem was not having a Memory Box bunny die and my second problem was to try and choose a suitable die from my collection that I hadn't used for an earlier challenge. I have a long wish list of dies but not so many actual ones! The bunny is my much used Alice Palace crowned bunnies stamp by Crafty Individuals, the sentiment is a stamp I had made a few years ago. Both have been stamped in Archival sepia and I grounded the bunny with a little grey chalk. The Memory Box dies are loopy rings and fancy blossoms. I die cut the rings with gold card and then used 3 different patterned papers to fill the rings - a bit fiddly but worth it. The blossoms have been glued in the centre and the petals curled up for dimension and I have added some gem centres for a little sparkle.
This has definitely been one of those projects which has made use of my little grey cells!

Dictionary Challenge - G

This fortnight's letter for the dictionary challenge on the Craft Barn blog is G. At first I had another word in mind but decided to go for Geisha. I know this is in a very similar style to the R page I did last fortnight but I figured G and R would not be next to each other when the book is bound so it didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, besides I wanted to use this gorgeous Stampington stamp. I stamped and masked the image first. My background had to be green (of course), made with a bubble wrap stencil, an oriental text stamp, a small floral motif stamp and a mesh roller. I ripped up some of my precious washi paper (I bought this pack at Kansai airport with my last few yen) to add to the page and flicked some runny gold paint all over. The lady was coloured with Coloursoft pencils and I made a tiny rosette for her hair. I die cut a trellis type embellishment with the same coloured paper to hold the definition and added a few pearl gems.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's G words soon. Sayonara!

LIM 268

It's been ages since I entered the challenge on the Less Is More blog, not because I haven't wanted to but time just seems to slip away these days. This week the challenge is 'What's outside your window'. I decided to use a Marion Emberson stamp set called Build a Tree as outside my window at the moment things seem to be waking up from their winter slumber and bursting into life. The sentiment is by DoCrafts. I raised up the stamped panel with foam pads and trimmed the front of the white, side-fold card base so that it was shorter than the back.

I added a strip of Brilliance orchid ink to match the flowers.

Uk Stampers ATC swap - R for Royal Rabbit

This is not just any old rabbit, this is a Royal Rabbit (well he does have a glittery purple crown). The background is made with TH's scribbles stencil, some dots by Katzelkraft and a Paper Artsy text stamp. His Majesty's tail has been heat embossed with WOW white puff embossing powder. I added a banner with another R word and some iridescent gems.

Dictionary Challenge - R

This fortnight the stars have aligned and the letter chosen for the Dictionary Challenge on the Craft Barn blog is the same as the letter for this month's ATC challenge - R. Having completed my ATCs I wanted to find a different word for the dictionary challenge. I am using the same Heinemann dictionary that I used for the previous challenge in 2013 but this time I am enlarging and copying the definitions and using them on loose pages which I will bind into a book at the end of the year. I had a flick through the dictionary for inspiration and my eyes fell on Rani, an Indian Queen or Princess.
The main image is a stamp by Postmodern Design. I coloured it with Twinkling H2Os for some shine and coloursoft pencils. The frame was cut from distressed gold handmade paper from India with a Framelit die. I used picked raspberry, ripe persimmon and peacock feathers DIs.
The paisley motif is a traditional Indian one, named after a town in Scotland which became well known for weaving the pattern into textiles. In India the shape is known as an almond or  mango. I used a paisley embossing folder and a paisley stamp on the page. Traditionally in Mughal times ladies were kept hidden from view and it was the men who wore most of the amazing jewellery and the sumptuous fabrics.
Here's a pic showing some of the shine from the Twinkling H2Os:
Looking forward to seeing all the other entries this fortnight.

UK Stampers Postcard Swap - March

This month I have chosen the theme of Spring Colours for the postcard swap on the UK Stampers forum. I decided to go for a general theme rather than a spring one. The text is from an Artistic Stamper set and all the other circles are from an Inkadinkadoo circles & dots set. I pulled out some colours of Distress and Brilliance inks that reminded me of spring flowers (yellow for daffodils, soft pink for tulips, deep pink for magnolias etc) and got stamping onto a piece of card that I had lightly brushed with scattered straw DI.
I am also entering this into the Craft Barn fortnightly challenge the theme of which is background circles.

UK Stampers ATC swap - R for Rosette

This is the next ATC in my set of 3 for this month's UK Stampers swap. A simple one with minimal stamping (a Paper Artsy flourish) and a few scraps of paper. I make my rosettes using a Martha Stewart scoreboard to score at half inch intervals. Sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error to get the length and width proportions right but I get there in the end.

UK Stampers ATC Swap - R for Reticent

I love these Fornasetti images and have a couple of them as stamps. They always stamp so beautifully and are such striking images that I try and use them whenever I have the chance. This month's letter for the UK Stampers ATC swap is R so I have chosen the word Reticent meaning to hold back thoughts or feelings. I mounted the image onto an ATC sized card with a brad so that it can be moved to reveal:
the background stamp and text are from a Paper Artsy set. I coloured in her eye and lips and added glossy accents.

I would like to add that when I started swapping ATCs many years ago, I started numbering them. This is number 700! I have 7 A5 ring binders  full of all my swaps over the years and I look through them whenever I need inspiration or just whenever I have a moment or two to spare. They have given me an unquantifiable amount of pleasure and continue to do so.

Dictionary Challenge - L

A late entry for this fortnight's dictionary challenge on the Craft Barn blog where the letter is L. I chose letter as my word and went for a neutral colour scheme with some pops of red. The background is some patterned paper that I've had for years. I added some postmark stamps and folded a small envelope from patterned paper for the definition to come out of. some puffy, polka dot letters finished off the page.
