Christmas Pocket Card

A spare scribble snowman was sitting on my desk and I realised it had been a while since I had made a pocket card.

The background is a leftover from another project and I tore some scrap white card for the 'hills'. The mountains and trees are from a Sizzix set called Arctic Bear and the sentiment is by Tattered Lace.

Nature Pocket Card

Some bits on my desk and a strip of peeling bark from my garden were what prompted me to make this pocket card. The base patterned card was left over from this project and the birds were the waste from this coloured with an alcohol marker. The bark is the small jagged piece under the text and the flower. I played around with the elements and added some punched leaves, a paper flower, some gems and a hemp bow. I am loving putting together these little cards - it reminds me of the joy of making ATCs which I haven't made for a few years now.

Summer Pocket Card

It's been a while since I posted on my blog - a lot has been going on. Despite being very careful and still wearing a mask in shops etc I managed to get Covid last month. Fortunately I don't seem to have passed it onto family or friends and spent 10 days in my own little isolation unit of bedroom and bathroom with meals and snacks left at the door. Thank God for iPads and Netflix! After a few days of doing little else but sleeping and drinking lots of fluids I felt much better and caught up on a few series that I had wanted to see. I am fully recovered now and have my sense of smell back.

I thought I'd break myself back into crafting gently with a pocket card which I haven't made in a while. This came together very quickly. The background is a serviette from a pack I had bought a few months ago for all the BBQs we were going to have in the summer (ha, ha, thanks a lot summer!). I die cut the letters for summer, coloured them with worn lipstick DI and cut the word sweet out of a book of tags. That's about it sweet and simple!

Unrivalled Passion Pocket Cards

Whilst making the background in my previous post I made another background using the same colours and stencil but a different stamp. This piece was sitting on my desk and I thought it would make a good pocket card for my mini album of random things. I managed to squeeze 2 pocket cards out of the piece by matting one onto a postage stamp edged pocket card. These will sit facing each other on a double page.

I bought the text stamp (Dream Big by Visible Image) a week or so ago and wanted to try it out and this beautiful image by Innovative Stamp Creations seemed perfect to go with it. Both text and image were stamped with Versafine onyx black. I added a Crafty Individuals text stamp to the background in Stazon koala grey.

I am enjoying making these pocket cards with desk scraps and the album is filling up nicely.

Air Travel Pocket Card

I recently tidied up my craft trolley which holds my smaller paper pads and odd sheets of patterned papers and rediscovered a Papermania 6X6 pad called All  Aboard. This prompted another travel themed pocket card. The base was cut from a Sizzix pocket card set called Butterfly Cards which gave me the serrated postage stamp effect. I added another of my 'stamps' which tied in with the theme but all the other elements were from the Papermania pad. I punched a hole and added some baker's twine to the tag and mounted the ticket on foam to raise it up. I stamped the word travel and added a little shimmer on the hearts.

Travel Pocket Card

I realised that it's been a few months since I made a pocket card for my mini album of random things. I figured out that my last trip abroad was a year ago and I guess subconsciously my desire for travel prompted this card.

It uses a Sizzix die set called Tiny Travel Globe. This has a mini snow globe and tiny travel elements some of which you see here. The pieces are so tiny I found the easiest way to use all the elements was to cut them out from white card and colour the various parts as desired. So I have a London bus, a New York yellow cab, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty I added one of the scrapbook paper 'stamps' that I have and a die cut star shaped clip from a Sizzix set called Noted.  The background is a Cuttlebug embossing folder - Traffic Jam.

Flower Stamp Pocket Card

Another pocket card for my Random Scraps Album using another of the scrapbook paper 'stamps'. The pink base card was left over from another project as was the brown card. I used a woodgrain embossing folder on the brown piece which was only just big enough. I added a tiny scrap of the Crafty Individuals paper and a couple of punched leaves. The retro flowers were punched out and a couple of gems were added.

Another Heart Pocket Card

This pocket card uses scraps from the Pile of Shame (which is looking a little smaller). I can't remember what the terracotta base card was used for but a sizeable piece was on the Pile. I used a mosaic embossing folder and some leftover scraps from the Slanted Tri-fold Card here. I added another of the 'stamps' (you'll see a lot of those I have a pile of them) and some gems. The edges were shaded with tea dye DI and chalk.

Floral Pocket Card

I watched a Jennifer McGuire tutorial on You Tube in which she revisited embossing folders - specifically the newer 3D folders. I have a couple so decided to try out the technique she demonstrated. I used a Crafter's Companion 3D folder called Country Garden on some patterned paper left over from the card I showed in my previous post. The circular sentiment is also a left over from that project from the same Kaisercraft stamp set. The idea is you ink one side of the embossing folder (depending on if you want the background or the raised pattern) and run the folder through your machine as normal. Because the 3D folders are deeply moulded you can ink the folder directly with the ink pad - in this case I used Impress peony purple. After embossing I used Impress cupid pink on a piece of cut and dry felt and rubbed it gently over the raised areas to highlight them. The sentiment was raised on foam pads.

Heart Pocket Card

I haven't made a pocket card for a while - these are small cards (3" x 4") cut with a Sizzix die mostly made up of scraps from the Pile of Shame on my desk. They will be going into an album you can see here.

The background was a piece of card that I had heart embossed for another project but it hadn't looked right so it had been abandoned on my desk. I was using Brushos a few days later and had spritzed too much water and needed to blot some of it up so I grabbed the card, placed it over and was quite pleased with the results. The edges of the script patterned paper (not sure where it's from) were torn and I used a scrap of red card from the pile to die cut a TH scribbly heart. I'm happy with the way it's turned out and am enjoying putting these small cards together from bits and pieces - there's no pressure to make them or to fill the album -  I just have a look through the pile when I feel like it.

Flower Pocket Cards

Continuing with small pocket cards (2" x 3") for my mini album of random things (aka using up some of the scraps and bits littering my desk). I used a Sizzix die set called flower cards which cut both the straight and curved corner cards and the flower pattern as well. The patterned paper was some old stuff that I played around with stencils and stamps on. Sometimes if there's a patterned paper you don't really like you can add stamps/ink/paint and die cut it to use it up. This also works with card that you've worked on past the point of looking good and just ended up with a mess - try using it to cut letters - it never looks as bad as you thought.
The words are from a Sizzix /Craft Asylum set. I added some small gems to the flower centres. I thought I'd place these cards on opposing pages on a DPS.

Watercolour Pocket Card

This is the first pocket card I have made for the album in the previous post. It is 3" x 4" and I cut it from a Sizzix die set called flower cards.  I had a small piece of watercolour paper on which I had been playing with some watercolour paints.I mixed some watery pink and blue, splodged them on and spritzed with water to make the paints run further. When dry I stamped Crafty Individuals' script stamp and added some decorative tape (like washi but shiny) along the bottom. Over this I added a stamped strip and a postage stamp image which picked up on the blue of the watercolour. This 'stamp' is from a very old 12 x 12 sheet made up of small collaged images with a vintage feel which I cut apart with a pair of postage stamp edging scissors. I have a stack of these and I'm sure they will appear on a few more of these cards. I stuck a book page onto a scrap of card and used a Hero Arts stamp and cut set to make the butterflies which I shaded with  the residue of a pink and blue blending sponge. I added some pearls to the centres of the daisies.
