Calendar Challenge Week 6

This week's prompt on the Craft Barn blog was to use felt. I'm a bit time-pressured at the moment and needed to get this done without resorting to going out to buy some felt. I had 2 colours of felt at home - white which I use to make applicators for alcohol ink and a rather hideous sugar mouse pink which I bought years ago to make a costume for DS2 in his school play. He was a lamb and the pink was for the inner part of the ears (when I tell you that my little lamb just turned 18 you'll have an idea of how old this felt is!). I know that the Bigz dies cut through felt so I decided to use the TH tattered florals die. Once cut I tried to tone down the pink with archival plum ink and added a little colour to the white. I also decided to use a black base card to counteract the sickly, sugar pink. I embossed a trellis pattern with my scoreboard and added some punched retro flowers and gems. You should be able to see the embossing more clearly by clicking on the pic below . So, unusually for me, no stamping on this page and just a little hint of ink.

    1. I don't mind pink but this felt is a particularly sugary tone. I am having rather a pink moment at present.

  10. I laughed at your description of the colour f the pink felt and it brought back memories of those awful sugar pink mice that were available at Christmas lol. You have worked wonders with toning it down a little and then adding colour to the white so the pink wasn't so overwhelming. I like this calendar page very much:)

  11. This is gorgeous. I love the embossed background, the flowers really stand out beautifully against the black. Your flowers are lovely, by the way, I like pink. I'm not sure whether I have any felt, so haven't a clue what I'm going to do yet.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments you've left on my blog, I really appreciate them. Things have been a bit hectic in our house recently, so I'm not getting to comment quite as quickly as I'd like!

  12. I had a good chuckle when reading your post and the felt I used is from some Christmas stockings I made when my daughter was in infant school. She's now 20 so I guess I'm in the same boat as you! Should have put it in my post but I didn't think about it until reading yours. My felt also smells of moth balls because it's stored in my Grandma's old chest which belonged to her Grandma so the smell has been reinforced by those lovely ladies and I can't get rid of it!!
I love the flowers and you did a great job of toning the pink down - I've got some the same shade and even though I love pink I don't like that particular shade either. Great idea to offset it all against the black background. A really lovely calendar page and sorry for waffling on so long!
    Have a great weekend.

  13. I too had ancient felt in my stash... but the colours were simply too bright and too dark to colour them into something better ! Your page is lovely, I like the diamond pattern, simple, effective and no embossing folder in sight...
