Craft Barn Colour Challenge

I haven't been able to take part in a Craft Barn Challenge for a while so I wanted to take part in this one. My original idea was to use Isabelle's technique of blowing ink through a straw to make splatters. I planned to make a few brightly coloured splatters that would look like chrysanthemums in a vase but sadly I couldn't get it to work. I used watermelon, butterscotch and bottle alcohol inks but it didn't look right so I went over it all with some blending solution and a felt pad. I used the BG I made on this card (if you look closely you can just about make out some of the streaks made by the straw). I cut a Nellie Snellen circle, a Joy Crafts tag and a small strip. The Katzelkraft Norris Fleurs stamp was inked with Memento London Fog and coloured in with Faber Castell watercolour pencils. I spritzed a homemade gold shimmer over the image (unfortunately it shows up as a dirty smudge in the picture above). The cream card blank was shaded with Adirondack dye inks in watermelon and butterscotch. A couple of small flower brads held the tag in place.

  2. Your alcohol inks background is beautiful, never mind that it didn't work in your initial idea it was well worth doing it !

  3. You have invented a whole new technique for making backgrounds! I'm gonna nick my sons straws, have a blow and then a jolly good blend! Thanks for the tip! Love the card, sooooo pretty and just delightful!

  4. Your inky background is fab, it looks really shiny, did you use gloss paper? A very pretty card. x

  5. What a lovely card and the alcohol ink background is beautiful.
I'm not sure it would work with alcohol inks as they dry too quickly on the glossy card. I have not tried with alcohol inks as I try to steer clear of them if I can.
Best to use the spray inks (you can use ink from inkpad refill bottles too).
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you did not give up and entered the challenge nonetheless.

    1. I did manage to get a splatter effect with the straw but couldn't get them in the right place for a bunch of flowers and where the colours merged they went muddy. Thanks for the tip though I will try again with reinkers and spray inks.
