Dictionary Challenge - T
I'm quick out of the starting blocks for this fortnight's challenge on the Craft Barn blog where the letter is 'T'. I was having a bit of a tidy-up of my craft stuff (or 'junk' as the rest of my family refer to it) and came across some large sheets of coloured metallic card which were pre-cut into various shapes. It was supposed to be a mathematical aid for pupils but how or why I came to be in possession of it is a mystery. I spent a while popping all the shapes out and sorted them into small boxes making a mental note to myself to try and make use of them sometime. Today is that time!
Tessellate is a word that fascinates me as I went through school without ever having heard it and it was only when my sons were at school that I learnt what it meant. I used some chevron shapes and some triangles to fill my page but although brightly coloured they looked a bit flat so I decided to emboss the chevrons for added texture.
That's about it really. Have a good fortnight!

What a wonderful word an great use of your "stuff".
ReplyDeleteHello. What a great word! I thought it was going to be something to do with 'tidy', which is probably what most crafters need to do every now and again! Lovely entry to the challenge. Best wishes, Anne O
ReplyDeleteGreat Word choice and Interpretation. Fab colours as well :)

ReplyDeleteA great word to choose and it creates a really bright bold page!
ReplyDeletePerfect word - great depiction. Love all those colours.
ReplyDeleteTessilation is a fascinating word isn't it. It sounds so good. Love your interpretation of the word, the textures, the colours, everything works.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I had never heard the word until I became enthralled with M.C. Escher. The sad news is, I was a MATH major during my undergrad years, but it took me discovering art history before I fully understood the concept.
ReplyDeleteI adore the way you embossed the tiles. They are truly wonderfully done, and the colors are simply perfect!
You suggested I stand when I stamp. I stand for EVERYTHING I do, except sewing. Somehow, since I'm so short, I can't make art if I'm sitting. I also used a cushion under the rubber. The big problem was, I was lazy and didn't want to remove/cut the rubber, so I inked the part I wanted, then laid the colored card stock on the rubber and pressed. Silly me, I know. Also, the "sweet" was with another saying (sweet memories, I think it was), but added it to the "tea time." Inking just what I needed was OK, but I should have cut the block of rubber before I started, I think. Thanks for your suggestions, though.
Love your beautiful creation! I too hadn't heard of the word until only earlier this year when my 12 year old daughter came home and had to make a tessellation piece of art for maths - it sure proved difficult as she was determined to create a cat!!
ReplyDeleteA great mixture of colours and textures, perfect for your word choice x
ReplyDeleteGreat choice of word, although after embossing your strips you could have had texture too...
ReplyDeleteA fabulous word!! Bet no one else uses it:) Love the tessalated design and the embossing on the chevrons too.
ReplyDeleteA fabulous choice of word and a perfect way to give the shapes their fifteen minutes of fame. A great page full of texture and colour.
